craft room. check.

Back to blogging :)

In my last post, I shared the shelves and shutters that we built in my craft room/office. Well... I FiNaLLy hauled my desk (with the help of my amazing husband of course) down to the garage for a little bit of TLC. A few other little odds and ends and this finally puts the finishing touch on the room! Check it out!!

Okay so by the way... we had a friend (Cody Jordan) photograph the house when we first moved in. He is an amazing photographer (will post more pics later) So of course the "Before" picture is beautiful even despite what i gave him to work with haha

Check out his work: http://www.codyjordan.com/index.htm

And so my pics (that were taken with my iphone...eek) look pretty awful. Thats why i didnt go into photography :)

If you noticed in the before, the color of the desk just didn't really work for me.
So we took the desk apart and I sanded the top down to the original wood...

Then I stained the top...
(And painted the legs, sorry no pics)...

Finished Product! the Back side...

Up close of my fun project from a few weeks ago! I found some windows at a builders outlet for $3 each! I painted and sanded edges for the "antique" look.
They are great for "panoramic" shots...

My dad found this antique sewing organizer at a yard sale. A little paint and its perfect.
I keep all my thread, needles etc. in here!

And I love this little stool in the corner my mom found and we fixed up :)

shelves and shutters.

So many things to share! But we will do it one at a time of course! :)

I am so excited to share the additions we made to my craft room/office upstairs.

Here we go!

So this is what it looked like before... nice, but definitely needed some help...

I wanted to add some built in bookshelves on each side of the windows and leave the bench for extra seating under the windows.
So, using some of the leftover wood we had from building the house and a few boards we needed to buy, we built the shelves.

And I always wanted to cover 1/2 of the bookshelves with old shutters... so we looked and looked and looked and couldn't ever find any that fit right... and were a good deal. SO, we decided to make our own shutters! We used cedar boards and left the rough cut side on the outside to give it that "rough/old" look.

Then Matt painted the shelves white and I painted the shutters a light blue (I got the easy job) Instead of using a primer, I just put one light coat of blue on the shutters so that the wood would show through and again give it that weathered look.
And this is how it all turned out...

And not to worry, I had PleNtY of things to fill up those shelves!
Still moving things around but its coming along...

And the best part about it is that I can hide my scrapbooking and sewing materials all behind the shutters on one side, and all my books behind the other!

Thanks for stopping in! More projects are in progress and we will post again asap!

wood walls.

So... back in December we had the chance to do a really neat project in our kitchen and laundry room. We decided we wanted to change the "look" and give the walls a little bit of texture. We have always loved wood walls and we just love that old look... so we tried it out! Check out the pics below.

Here is a picture of the laundry room wall before. So plain... and we had to do something with that electrical panel box...

So we actually bought some cedar fence posts to use... cheap and great texture!
The amazing hubs measured and cut...

and nailed...

and painted... haha
I think i actually might have helped paint a little... :)

And Matt had this old Coca-Cola sign from way-back-when so we put it up
and the whole project turned out awesome! LOVE IT

Laundry room wall :)

and since we liked it so much in the laundry room...
we decided to try it out in the kitchen...

and LOVE it here too!!

It really helps break up the room and determine where the "kitchen area" starts...

Thanks for stopping in! More posts to come soooooon!  :)
